Moving to Brazil: Sept 8–12 2026 Posts Recap

I moved to Brazil back in March of 2025, and I’ve been going through my photos, videos, and stories in chronological order — with the occasional random, current-day story thrown in.

If you don’t have Facebook, or you just don’t feel like digging through it, here’s where you can catch up

This week I started telling the real story of how I got to Salvador, Bahia — starting with the flight out of Atlanta in March 2025, all the way through my first heartbreak (it involves vegetables, not people) and a whale sighting I still can’t believe I caught on camera.

Here’s what went up this week, in order:

  • How I got here — the visa timing, the flight, and the moment it actually hit me what I’d done, landing in São Paulo with almost no plan.
  • The layover chaos nobody warns you about — wrong lines, shuttle buses, and my first glimpse of the bay from the air.
  • Baía de Todos os Santos — what that bay actually is, and the cargo ships I had no idea were down there.
  • Gamboa de Baixo — the neighborhood I landed in on day one, why it’s iconic, and the wealth gap sitting right in the middle of it.
  • Whether businesses here really only use WhatsApp. (Yes.)
  • What Porto da Barra Beach is actually like, and the strangers who stopped me twice on the way to lunch.
  • My first heartbreak in Brazil.
  • Grocery store checkout lines, and why patience is basically a requirement.
  • A crazy dating story — if you haven’t heard of “ficar” or being a “ficante,” you’re about to.
  • The one non-negotiable I have when picking a place to live here.
  • Whales off Farol da Barra, and when to actually catch them.
  • The honest answer on working remotely for a U.S. company while living here legally.
  • I post across this blog, YouTube, Facebook, and a few different podcasts, and on purpose, I don’t say the same thing the same way in every place. So if you only follow one, you’re only getting part of it.

If digging through all of that isn’t your thing, or you’ve got specific questions about your own move here, you can always schedule time to talk with me directly instead.
